Designing the Instant song experience for Songfinch
Overview
Songfinch, a personalized song-gifting platform, allows users to create custom songs written and recorded by their vetted artist community. While their main product, the Original song, takes up to 7 days to deliver and costs $200 or more, user feedback indicated a desire for a faster and more affordable option.
To meet this need, Songfinch conceived the Instant song – still custom and artist-created, but automated, so users receive their song instantly, and for only $30. To test user acquisition and engagement with this new offering, I designed an MVP.
Top of funnel users, driven primarily by Facebook and Instagram ad placements, were guided through a multiple-choice quiz based on a chosen category. Songfinch's proprietary technology then arranged pre-recorded song clips in real-time according to the user's selections, resulting in a personalized song. Users were encouraged to explore and generate new songs until finding one they wished to purchase.
The MVP provided valuable insights into user preferences and purchasing behavior, and validated ideas for future iterations and extensibility.
