Personalizing the Instant song experience with Names

Overview

While Songfinch's Instant song proved enjoyable, it lacked the personal touch that makes for a great gift. This hindered key business goals like driving repeat purchases, and demonstrating user engagement to inspire brand partnerships.

To create a more personalized and meaningful experience for users, we focused on incorporating names into the songs – a deceptively simple concept that proved extremely challenging to implement due to the sheer volume and variability of names and spellings.

Utilizing AI and artist-recorded voice models, we were able to artificially recreate any name in any of the artists’ voices and seamlessly integrate it into the song.

Building into the Instant song flow, I designed an elegant MVP solution to guide users through entering and editing names – allowing them to adjust spelling and pronunciation as needed – while ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience.

The Names feature was a hit with both users and brands, leading to a significant increase in repeat purchases and overall sales. This success also paved the way for valuable brand partnerships with American Greetings, Brach’s Candies, and Starbucks.

… a deceptively simple concept that proved extremely challenging to implement due to the sheer volume and variability of names and spellings.

To help illustrate this challenge, I’ve selected 3 screens from each of the following scenarios — The happy path: Spelling and pronunciation exist; Spelling challenge: Spelling exists, but pronunciation doesn't; New name: Adding a new name to the system; Pronunciation challenge: Spelling doesn't exist, but pronunciation does.
